The De-Extinction of Experience: How to Observe and Count Birds by Sound (Citizen Science Workshop) with Dr Tyler Hallman
Can you identify birds without seeing them?
Join us for a hands-on introduction to listening to birdsong and participating in citizen science. This interactive workshop will show you how scientists and communities use sound to understand bird diversity and monitor nature.
You will:
- Learn how to identify birds by their calls and songs
- Explore how bird sounds are visualised using sonograms
- Discover how apps like Merlin identify birds using sound
- Take part in a simple citizen science bird survey
- Go outside and practice real bird monitoring
No prior experience needed: just curiosity. Free event | Adults (18+)
This event is part of a discipline-hopping project funded by WREC on how different ways of engaging with natural environments influence people鈥檚 experiences, perceptions, and how they feel. Participants will take part in an interactive event involving listening, observation, response, and participation in environmental sound and nature-based activities. Following the activity, participants will be asked a few short questions about their experiences, feelings, and views on nature and the environment.Supported by WREC Wales Research Environment and Culture.
